Meet Our Hosts

Alejo Sabugo

Local Guide

Alejo Sabugo

Fixer, Producer, Explorer

We met Asturias native Alejo Sabugo when he worked on the “Parts Unknown” Asturias episode. A producer and fixer for Bourdain, he quickly became an integral part of the Roads & Kingdoms family and is now a frequent League of Travelers host.

Gonzalo Gil Lavedra

R&K Host

Gonzalo Gil Lavedra

Wanderer, Scout, Gourmand

We first met Gonzalo Gil Lavedra in the smoky courtyard behind a family’s butcher shop in the meat-obsessed pueblo of Temozón, Yucatán. Referred to us by Noma chef René Redzepi, Gonzalo had sweet-talked the family into taking us all behind the scenes of some of the best smoked meat in Mexico. His unassuming charm, curiosity, and ability to talk his way into and out of just about anything have made him a perfect addition to the League of Travelers.

Where You’ll Stay

Corral del Rey

Corral del Rey

Seville Palace

In Seville’s old quarter of Barrio Alfalfa just five minutes from the Cathedral, a 17th-century palacio has been meticulously restored and converted into a small private luxury boutique hotel. Architectural highlights include an atrium patio, Roman marble columns, Tarifa stone floors and original wooden carved detailing. And the rooftop bar is no slouch.

Casa La Siesta

Casa La Siesta

Rural Hideaway

Casa La Siesta is a stunning hacienda turned boutique hotel immersed in Andalusian countryside near the gorgeous hilltop town of Vejer de la Frontera. This luxury rural hideaway is everything we could want for the second part of this trip—and it’s all ours for the week.

  • Traveling with R&K is like living in Bourdain’s Parts Unknown for a week. It is the deepest and most authentic travel experience of my life.
