Description

Presented by Roads & Kingdoms, the Anti-ICE Supper Club is a series of fundraising dinners in support of local organizations defending communities under attack—our small but vital contribution to the fight for immigrant America.

For our last night in the Bay Area, we are thrilled to host an evening at Californios, the only two-Michelin-star Mexican restaurant in the United States. Co-hosted by R&K’s Nathan Thornburgh, the evening will include a special tasting menu created by two giants of the Bay Area culinary world: Chef Val M. Cantú of Californios and Chef David Yoshimura of Michelin-starred Japanese-Californian restaurant Nisei.

When: March 10, 2026; 6:30-9:30 pm (prompt seating)

Where: Californios, 355 11th Street, San Franciso

Price: $1000 per person, including wine pairings

Net proceeds benefit: Bay Resistance: a broad-based, multi-racial coalition of community groups, faith organizations, labor unions, and everyday neighbors organizing to build mass resistance against ICE, federal overreach, militarization, and the criminalization of our communities. Bay Resistance believes in building power from the ground up—through solidarity, mutual aid, and collective action. Can’t attend but want to support Bay Resistance? Contribute directly here.

“These hard working members of our community should not live in fear.”

— Chef Val M. Cantú, Californios

“It’s an honor to host this dinner to help raise funds and awareness for a cause that supports our democracy by standing up to injustice,” says Chef Val M. Cantú. “The hospitality profession is filled with countless immigrants that enable our industry to function. These hard working members of our community should not live in fear. We are grateful for your support in this cause.”

Val M. Cantú is the chef and co-owner of Californios, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant in San Francisco’s SoMa district. With his tasting menus of contemporary, California-influenced, Mexican cuisine, he has earned rave reviews, prestigious accolades, and a reputation for having redefined the way Mexican cooking is perceived in the world of fine dining. After stints at several San Francisco restaurants, Cantú moved to Mexico to immerse himself in the country’s culinary traditions and learn from Enrique Olvera at Mexico City’s Pujol, considered one of the world’s best restaurants. He returned to the Bay Area in 2013, opening Californios two years later.

David Yoshimura is the chef and owner of Nisei in San Francisco. Originally from Houston, Texas, he built his career in New York, Japan, and Spain before returning to California to help shape the celebrated restaurant Californios. At Nisei, he brings together his Japanese heritage and Californian roots in a personal and contemporary way. The restaurant has been recognized with a Michelin star, and David himself with the Michelin Young Chef Award, establishing him as one of the most exciting voices in today’s dining scene.

Nathan Thornburgh co-founded Roads & Kingdoms in 2012 and ran the independent media company with Anthony Bourdain and co-founders Matt Goulding and Doug Hughmanick for years, winning numerous awards, including a Primetime Emmy and a National Magazine Award. In recent years, R&K launched the League of Travelers, offering small-group culinary journeys, and R&K Insiders, a membership program that includes a new print magazine and digital editorial. The Anti-ICE Supper Club is the successor to the Banned Countries Dinners they launched in 2017 with Anthony Bourdain and chefs from the Somali, Persian, and Syrian diasporas.
