Description

Presented by Roads & Kingdoms, The Anti-ICE Supper Club is a series of fundraising dinners in support of local organizations defending communities under attack—our small but vital contribution to the fight for immigrant America.

On our first night in Minneapolis, we are partnering with groundbreaking Indigenous chef Sean Sherman at his newly opened Indígena by Owamni, telling a different story of American cooking by celebrating the amazing Indigenous diversity of the Americas. The evening will highlight some of the restaurant’s signature dishes through an immersive dinner experience.

When: Monday, September 14, 2026; 6:30-9:30 pm

Where: Indígena by Owamni: 806 South 2nd Street, Minneapolis, MN 55415

Tickets: $86.47 per person; buffet dinner and one drink, cash bar to follow

Net proceeds benefit: Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC), an all-volunteer, grassroots, multiracial, and multinational immigrant rights mass-movement organization. MIRAC fights for legalization for all, an end to immigration raids and deportations, an end to all anti-immigrant laws, and full equality in all areas of life. “The use of ICE was never about protecting borders. It’s about fear… This country tested its cruelty on Indigenous people first; now the playbook hasn’t changed, only the target. So join us, share a meal, and help us make the fear fail.”

— Sean Sherman, Indígena by Owamni

Indígena by Owamni is owned and operated by North American Traditional Indigenous Food Systems (NATIFS), a donor-supported nonprofit dedicated to rekindling Indigenous food sovereignty and building a food system that generates real wealth and wellbeing in Native communities. When you eat there, you’re supporting Indigenous farmers, foragers, and food producers across Turtle Island—including long-time partners like Native wise, Red Cliff Fishery, Dream of Wild Health, Red Lake Foods, Bow and Arrow Corn, and Ramona Farms—and fueling work that goes far beyond the restaurant’s walls. This approach offers a different story of American cooking by celebrating the amazing Indigenous diversity of the Americas.

Sean Sherman is an Oglala Lakota chef, author, and founder of North American Traditional Indigenous Food Systems (NATIFS). Born and raised on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, he has spent his career reclaiming pre-colonial Indigenous foodways—strictly omitting dairy, wheat flour, and cane sugar to honor native ingredients like bison, wild rice, cedar, and sumac. Sherman is the co-founder of the James Beard Award-winning Minneapolis restaurant Owamni, which recently expanded its mission and riverfront footprint as Indígena by Owamni at the Guthrie Theater. Through his culinary work, advocacy, and nonprofit Indigenous Food Lab, Sherman uses food as a tool to rebuild regional native supply chains, restore food sovereignty, and preserve tribal history across artificial colonial borders.

Nathan Thornburgh co-founded Roads & Kingdoms in 2012 and ran the independent media company with Anthony Bourdain and co-founders Matt Goulding and Doug Hughmanick for years, winning numerous awards, including a Primetime Emmy and a National Magazine Award. In recent years, R&K launched the League of Travelers, offering small-group culinary journeys, and R&K Insiders, a membership program that includes a new print magazine and digital editorial. The Anti-ICE Supper Club is the successor to the Banned Countries Dinners they launched in 2017 with Anthony Bourdain and chefs from the Somali, Persian, and Syrian diasporas.
