Description

Presented by Roads & Kingdoms, The Anti-ICE Supper Club is a series of fundraising dinners in support of local organizations defending communities under attack—our small but vital contribution to the fight for immigrant America.

Our first night in Chicago is a special pop-up of Family Meal, the famed (and always sold-out) Cambodian feast at Ethan Lim’s Hermosa. An ode to Cambodia’s past and a spirited vision of what comes next, Family Meal has become a space for community, connection, and lasting friendships. For this evening, co-hosted by Ethan Lim and R&K co-founder Nathan Thornburgh, the family-style feast will be paired with wine curated by Erin Drain

When: Monday, May 4, 6:30-9:30 pm

Where: Hermosa: 4356 W Armitage Ave, Chicago, IL 60639

Tickets: $500 per person; family-style dinner party with wine pairings

Net proceeds benefit: The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, a statewide coalition of more than 130 community-based organizations, faith institutions, unions, service providers, and advocacy groups working together to defend and advance the rights of immigrants and refugees. Through organizing, advocacy, and collective action, ICIRR works to push back against deportation and build long-term power for immigrant communities. Ethan Lim is the chef-owner of Hermosa and a refugee who witnessed firsthand how irrational fear in governance can disrupt a country for decades. His parents and older siblings endured one of the greatest atrocities in human history, the Khmer Rouge genocide that wiped out more than 1.5 million people in Cambodia. Although Ethan was born after the Vietnam War and raised in a country removed from its conflict, his parents told him stories of the past to learn from its lessons: that authoritarianism that holds onto its old glories is repressive and damaging. Ethan is a firm believer that grassroots movements build the best foundation, and bringing people together has been the core of Family Meal

Nathan Thornburgh co-founded Roads & Kingdoms in 2012 and ran the independent media company with Anthony Bourdain and co-founders Matt Goulding and Doug Hughmanick for years, winning numerous awards, including a Primetime Emmy and a National Magazine Award. In recent years, R&K launched the League of Travelers, offering small-group culinary journeys, and R&K Insiders, a membership program that includes a new print magazine and digital editorial. The Anti-ICE Supper Club is the successor to the Banned Countries Dinners they launched in 2017 with Anthony Bourdain and chefs from the Somali, Persian, and Syrian diasporas.

Tickets are non-refundable but can be transferred. If you have any questions about these events or would like to transfer tickets, please contact tatiana@roadsandkingdoms.com.
