Description

Presented by Roads & Kingdoms, The Anti-ICE Supper Club is a series of fundraising dinners in support of local organizations defending communities under attack—our small but vital contribution to the fight for immigrant America.

“No Gods, No Kings, No Executive Chefs” is the ethos behind Gilda, the highly anticipated, soon-to-be-opened Spanish bar in West Town that’s our last stop in Chicago. For this special collaboration with the Anti-ICE Supper Club, Gilda will be opening its doors for an exclusive guest preview ahead of its public debut later in May. Join us for traditional San Sebastian-style pintxos and beverages, and help us cap off an exciting week in Chicago in support of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.

When: Thursday, May 7, 6:30-9:30 pm

Where: Gilda: 1421 W. Chicago Ave, Chicago

Tickets: $85, includes all-night pinxos + one drink, cash bar to follow

Net proceeds benefit: The Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, a statewide coalition of more than 130 community-based organizations, faith institutions, unions, service providers, and advocacy groups working together to defend and advance the rights of immigrants and refugees. Through organizing, advocacy, and collective action, ICIRR works to push back against deportation and build long-term power for immigrant communities. If you cannot attend, but would like to support, please donate here.

This night is about protecting the people and the communities that make hospitality possible, and ensuring their stories are never erased.”

— Jeremy Leven, Gilda

Gilda, an upcoming pintxos taberna on West Town’s rising restaurant row, channels what its team calls “dirty Basque tavern cuisine”—a gritty, high-energy take on the ingredient-driven traditions of Spain’s northern coast. Led by chefs Jeremy Leven and Rafael Esparza, the project (which was recently highlighted by Block Club Chicago) embraces the chaos and craft of doing things by hand: constantly shifting menus, DIY spirit, and the thrill of building something from scratch. Leven, whose path runs through mfk and Mama Delia, traces the restaurant’s origins to formative time spent immersed in Basque food culture—its precision, its conviviality, and what he describes as a layer of “joyous chaos.” Drawing also on the rebellious energy of La Movida Madrileña, Gilda aims to bring a more spontaneous, irreverent edge to Chicago dining—one bite at a time.

Nathan Thornburgh co-founded Roads & Kingdoms in 2012 and ran the independent media company with Anthony Bourdain and co-founders Matt Goulding and Doug Hughmanick for years, winning numerous awards, including a Primetime Emmy and a National Magazine Award. In recent years, R&K launched the League of Travelers, offering small-group culinary journeys, and R&K Insiders, a membership program that includes a new print magazine and digital editorial. The Anti-ICE Supper Club is the successor to the Banned Countries Dinners they launched in 2017 with Anthony Bourdain and chefs from the Somali, Persian, and Syrian diasporas.
