Description
Presented by Roads & Kingdoms, The Anti-ICE Supper Club is a series of fundraising dinners in support of local organizations defending communities under attack—our small but vital contribution to the fight for immigrant America.
Next, we’re headed to Kansas City, a progressive, pro-immigrant city in a deep-red gerrymandered state that also happens to be the hometown of Roads & Kingdoms executive editor Charly Wilder. Night one will be co-hosted by local legend Adam Jones at his meticulously sourced Near Eastern restaurant Clay & Fire in downtown KC. Please join us for a family-style meal of Afghan, Georgian, Romanian, and Turkish dishes paired with Ukrainian vodka and Georgian wines, in one of the city’s warmest rooms.
When: Monday, October 12, 2026 6:30-9:30 pm
Where: Clay & Fire: 815 W 17 St, Kansas City, MO 64108
Tickets: $140 per person: family-style dinner, wine, and spirits.
Net proceeds benefit: Advocates for Immigrant Rights and Reconciliation (AIRR), a local organization led by immigrants or children of immigrants, and for immigrants. They recognize and are working tirelessly to keep families together and end the humanitarian crisis our immigrant community is facing. AIRR believes that all people, no matter where they were born, deserve a chance at a safe and dignified life, and is committed to empowering and uplifting the voices of our immigrant community and providing them with the tools they need to better protect themselves and their families. AIRR organizes and activates immigrants in Kansas and Missouri to advocate for their rights and well-being. If you cannot attend, but would like to support, please donate here.
“The theme of this event touches my family and cafe personally,” says Adam Jones. “In 2025, my business partner was returning to KC from Turkey and was detained at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport and put in a cell. His phone was searched, and his 10-year multi-entry visa was cancelled, turning our world upside down as he was sent back to Turkey. These times don’t make connection easy; this is very personal.”

— Adam Jones, Clay & Fire
Clay & Fire is a Near Eastern restaurant whose culinary influences span from the Black Sea to the top of India: Turkey, Iran, Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and into the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas. The owner, Adam Jones, and his wife, who hails from Tehran, opened their first restaurant together in 1986. He opened Clay & Fire with his Turkish business partner in 2020. The restaurant is a true labor of love, sourcing food from their own organic farm, and a determined outpost for art, community, and culture. Adam and his partner have a second location in Turkey and are working on another restaurant in Greece.
Charly Wilder is the executive editor of the award-winning travel and media company Roads & Kingdoms, the former publishing partner of Anthony Bourdain. In recent years, R&K launched the League of Travelers, offering small-group culinary journeys, and R&K Insiders, a membership program that includes a new print magazine and digital editorial. The Anti-ICE Supper Club is the successor to the Banned Countries Dinners they launched in 2017 with Anthony Bourdain and chefs from the Somali, Persian, and Syrian diasporas. Before joining Roads & Kingdoms, Wilder was a longtime contributor to The New York Times, reporting on travel and culture from Russia, Mexico, Central Asia, and across Europe.
