We’re mapping and publishing our favorite #BourdainDay tributes below, with a few added thoughts and digital fistbumps. Watch José Andrés and Eric Ripert lead the call to celebration or read more about our thoughts on #BourdainDay. And please donate to the Anthony Bourdain Legacy Scholarship at the Culinary Institute of America. We’ll be updating throughout the day, so check back to see in real time how the world is celebrating our friend and partner. —Matt, Alexa, and Nathan
More #BourdainDay shenanigans, this time from Hotel Boškinac on the Island of Pag, yet another location that Tony visited for his show (their BourdainDay event was co-hosted by Chef Mate Janković, who was Tony’s guide back then). So, you know, živjeli!

The Rezaian home
Washington, DC
1:30pm EST June 25: This is a perfect Jason Rezaian tribute to his friend and advocate Bourdain. It’s smart, warm, thoughtful, literary. Video presumably taken by his wife, the journalist Yeganeh Rezaian, who wrote so well about food, home and their imprisonment. Also, read Jason’s great WaPo piece today about celebrating #BourdainDay by Getting out and LIVING
1:18pm EST June 25: A healthy nine-spot of drinking to Tony, all on one screen. Well played, brewers.

Anywhere in the World
08:37am EST June 25 A nice thought for those of us heading to a restaurant tonight to toast Tony (whether it’s to a Waffle House or a secret ortolan-devouring banquet).
Minneapolis-St Paul, MN
08:27am EST June 25 Some mesmerizing bubbling broth happening here in the Twin Cities, MN, where JuditheFoodie is making some sloooow Vietnamese pho—the dish that Tony said changed his life—to mark #BourdainDay. (This is when she added the meatballs.)
07:34 EST June 25 Texas Monthly’s BBQ editor, Daniel Vaughn, marking #BourdainDay with smoked fish in Chicago.
Shanghai, China
07:26am EST June 25 Tony’s legacy, nicely summed up here by missjacksx with Shanghai’s skyline.
06:57am EST June 25 We know Tony would have felt very at home in a joint called House of Lechon, the location of this pork-celebrating tribute from Cebu, Philippines. As Tony said when he was about to dig in to the famous Cebu lechon, “There are few things I love more than pigs roasting over an open pit.”
Lerici, Italy
06:42am EST June 25 Pretty much a perfect tribute to Tony here from Lerici, Italy: cacio e pepe, wine, and the coastline.
Miami, Florida
06:34am EST 25 June We want to party with this woman in Miami, who’s sinking a bottle of Stella to celebrate.
Denver, Colorado
06:17am EST June 25 Denver-based haikuist @cleekmaker00 has this short (naturally) but perfectly formed tribute to Tony’s travels.
06:00am EST June 25 There are few places in the world Tony loved more than Rome, and few things he’d rather do than lose himself to the city’s more primal pleasures. In Pasta Pane Vino, the last book R&K published with Bourdain, he had this little snapshot to offer in the intro: “Careening through Rome, late at night in a taxi, half-swacked on negronis, listening to Mina, remains magic. To lay eyes on a bowl of Cacio e Pepe, a plate of trippa, agnolotti, urchins in season, porchetta… that’s some powerful shit.” One thing Tony never wanted to see in Rome was some hotshot chef fucking with his carbonara, so it’s only fitting that this guanciale-inflected tribute comes from Roscioli, a Roman institution serving one of the city’s finest carbonaras.
01:00am EST June 25 Next level homage: the brass plaque at Christian’s Bar, where he was sorta hazed into Newfoundland society during a Parts Unknown episode. Cool behind-the-scenes video of that shoot turned up on Twitter today as well.
Moorea, French Polynesia
Moorea-Maiao, French Polynesia
12:02am EST June 25 God is definitely in this picture somewhere. Either in the sky or the bottom of that drink #Moorea
9:36pm EST June 24 Karyn queues for the cause.
“Nelly, I love your face, Nelly!” Chef Chad Byrne and an enthusiastic camerawoman line the crew up and give a greeting from Ireland.
International Institute of Hotel Management Hyderabad
C9R6+2W Hyderabad, Telangana, India
And now a message from Hospitality Student Kamraan Sattar. Hyderabad’s International Institute of Hotel Management is going big on Tony’s birthday, someone’s gonna get fine-dined, and we are very into it.
10:50pm EST June 24 Kat gets big points for posing a tall pour of Croatia’s iconic Ožujsko lager. And even more so for showing a quote from Tony printed on the Bokeria menu. There’s gotta be a thousand menus around the world with some quote or aside from him printed on them.
Mae Faek, Thailand
9:30pm EST June 24 It’s already #BourdainDay in Asia, in some of Tony’s favorite time zones, and there’s no better way to kick off the celebrations with this sweet little bilingual tribute from Tony’s friend and collaborator chef Andy Ricker. “I hope everybody out there uses this day as a celebration and a reflection.” We still love this interview journalist Danielle Renwick did with Andy about Tony’s legacy. An excellent writer, cook, and human, kicking off #BourdainDay right, and doing so despite a tremendous amount of ambient bird noise in the background.
9:50pm EST June 24 Adding this to the honor for the sheer protein-porn of it all. Prepwork for the sisig tacos with quail eggs offered on #BourdainDay, from chef Jay Cachuela, who says Tony’s love of Filipino food made him more proud of his own cuisine.
Kad KoKoa Coffee Bar, Thailand
Soi Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra 17, Khwaeng Thung Maha Mek, Khet Sathon, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10120, Thailand
9:53p EST June 24 No idea what exactly is happening here, but it involves Thai Chocolate and melting stuff and a shoutout to Uncle Tony. That’s good enough for us.
Le Bernadin
155 W 51st St, New York, NY 10019
7:50pm EST June 24 Leave it to Eric Ripert’s highly professional team at Le Bernadin to get in the early running for best workplace ensemble Tony tribute, featuring front of house and kitchen staff alike in rousing Happy Birthdays. Favorite moment is definitely Le Bernadin’s talented Tirolian Aldo Sohm, voted best sommelier in the world in 2008, cheersing and chugging on w 51st Street. Zum wohl!
2:39p EST June 24. The men who first announced the #BourdainDay idea, Tony’s close confidants and co-conspirators Eric Ripert and José Andrés, are spending #BourdainDay together in Singapore. Good start to the pre-party: there was beer, there was crab. Adelante, friends!
Time unknown, June 24 Leave it to the German youth to get a jumpstart on the beer-drinking for #BourdainDay. Pints of the good stuff, the dark stuff, in Düsseldorf, where Tony sat and beered for the lone non-Cologne scene in his Parts Unknown Köln episode.
4pm EST June 24 Shout out to the light trespassing implied in this nice little Twitter video response to José. We hope you get into the French Laundry through the front door one day Christiana!
The north remembers! Chef Pope Belanger (yes, kind of a great double title) shares his tribute menu to Bourdain, to be served at Restaurant 301 in Duluth, MN. Thank you Chef, thank you Pope!
Manila, Philippines
Manila
Writer Shirin Bhandari, a veteran of Roads & Kingdoms and Explore Parts Unknown, pays tribute from the Philippines. Great to see Pinoy love—when Roads & Kingdoms’ collaborator Kate Kunath shot with Tony in Manila a year and a half ago, he was mobbed by fans wherever he went. And anyone who has seen his shows from there knows that the feeling is, well, super-mutual.
Street artist Jerome Davenport’s Anthony Bourdain mural at Sticky Mango restaurant in London. There was a lot of love between London and Tony, though it does always make you think about Tony’s big affection for chef Marco Pierre White, who made his career in London. Solid duo, not least for the great 70’s hair legacies they both gave the world.
Salt Lake City, Utah
Salt Lake City, Utah
Really digging this tribute sketch from Salt Lake City-based artist Julie Fesko Penman. Not just because it’s good, but because it reminds us a bit of Tony’s sketch styles (though obviously at a professional level). If he ever got stuck in a recording session or anywhere he had to sit tight, he would either tap his fingers manically, or, if he had access to a pen and paper, would rip off these messy, great little doodle illustrations.
